Back on this week's episode is someone with a doctorate in the study of Laguna Beach, Kelli Williams of @laguna_biotch and Beyond the Blinds podcast. We go with the teenage cast of Laguna Beach to Cabo with Kelli filling us in on all the on-screen and behind the scenes drama. It was a time when hair was highlighted and crispy, political correctness was a non-issue and the biggest drama on reality tv were the soap opera moments generated from the eye contact between Lauren Conrad and her enemy, Kristin Cavallari.

The first time we met the Duggar family was in a one hour special we discuss at (10:25) called "14 Kids and Pregnant Again", a whimsical look at the day-to-day life of a seemingly loving family. It would go on to evolve 4 more times from 17 Kids and Counting to 18 Kids, 19 Kids its final form, Counting On. We talk about the shiny, glossy side of the show and the sinister undertones of it's rigid and cult-like nature. Their shows were brought to a screeching halt in 2020 by the most horrifying scandal of Josh Duggar. This is the most grim "Where Are They Now?" the show may ever have, with a look back and how different reality is from how we treated cults in the early 2000s.

At (10:48) we begin with an overview of how the show came to be, a look at how it began with episode 1 then a scene-by-scene recap of one of the most famous moments in reality tv history. The show was, by all accounts, pretty wild. In our "Where are they now" segment, we break down the redemption arc for Alexis Neiers, now Alexis Haines, which family members have had falling outs and which ones have forgiven one another.
